The Ridware Story
At the end of 2007, some members of Ridware Young Farmers team approached our club with a view to coming along to train and pull with us to help improve their ability as a team. In 2007 Ridware had finished last in the County rounds without winning an end. Holland resolved to help the club, and soon the idea was formed that Ridware would join Holland TOWC as a group to pull for Holland and in return Holland would help Ridware to improve and hopefully do well in future Young Farmers competitions. After winter and pre season training together, the results for Ridware were amazing. Ridware won the 2008 County Competition at Stafford and progressed to the Three Counties Show at Malvern for the Regional Finals which they again won. Ridware then went through to the Royal Show for the National Young Farmers Championships, where they got through to the final and met the champions: Ashover. Ridware took the first end but sadly lost 2-1, but what an improvement in that first year!
2008 Silver Medal Winners Royal Show
In 2009, the Ridware resolve was focused on one thing - the Royal Show. The team were in great shape and keen as mustard as they won the County Championships again at Stafford without giving any ground. Ridware girls also had a team and they finished in second place, both teams progressing the the Region Championships at the Three Counties Show in Malvern. The Girls pulled well bit finished 3rd and did not progress further, but the lads team were on top form again, winning the competition without losing a single end. When the Royal Show arrived the boys were ready, and pulled like lions to get through to the final where thay met up with Ashover once again. Ashover the Champions of several years now were not ready to hand over the crown and won the first end. But, after two more long hard ends the Ridware lads would not be denied of the title they wanted so badly, the last ever National YF's title to be won at the Royal Show was theirs!

In 2010 the defending Champions were relishing the prospect of defending their National Crown at the new National venue wherever it might be. The Ridware Boyz were again winners at Stafford without losing a single end (3rd year in a row) and then were magnificent in a very tough Regional Championships to win again at the Three Counties Show (again 3rd year in a row) BUT... that is where our story ends (for the moment at least) because the new venue for the National Young Farmers was planned for a date in September 2010 - just at the time when half of the team were due to be away at the 2010 World Championships in South Africa, so.... the team were thwarted at the final hurdle .. oh well ...but be assured this is not the end, we hope to resume normal service soon!

Holland took a small squad out to Pretoria for the TWIF World Championships, and competed very well in the 700 kilos and the 640 kilos beating several foreign teams of good standing, but in the 600 4+4 the team exceeded all expectations by storming their way through a group of eleven teams to finish second overall and qualify for the Semi Finals. Holland had lost only to 'Gaztedi' from the Spanish Basque Land, beating all the other teams 2-0 in strong fashion without picking up any cautions. Holland beat top teams from Countries including: South Africa, Netherlands, USA, and Switzerland. In the Semi Finals Holland beat TTV Koapman for a second time to go through to pull for the Gold Medal in the final where they again met up with the great 'Gaztedi' Holland mounted a fierce attack but could not get the better of the Spanish Basques and took a wonderful Silver Medal. This was the clubs highest acheivement, at the top of the top, there is nothing higher in the sport, it was a special moment.
