WORLD 4+4 CHAMPS - Retie, Belgium - Friday 2nd May Holland pulled out of their skin at the weekend to take a wonderful Bronze Medal in the 660 kilos 4+4 weight class. The Championships was being held as a part of the Family Janssens Tug of War Club International Tournament, which attracted almost 60 clubs from around the World. Holland pulled well in the 600 kilos 4+4 event also, but it was at 660 kilos that they left their mark. Finishing the group stages in joint third alongside Gortletteragh from Ireland Holland went on to the Semi Final pull off. Losing 2 ends to nil to TTV Schutshoff from the Netherlands (the only team that Holland lost to) meant they then had to pull off for Bronze with Eschbachta from Germany. Holland won a terrific pull outright, with two ends to nil. |
Holland have a terrific day at the Tug of War Association National Championships - Shrewsbury, Sat.21st June Holland entered four weight classes at the National Championships and the team pulled well in all, but it was the Catchweight and 720 teams that had the most success. Holland were unlucky not to beat Bosley in the first semi final of the catchweight ( the toss of the coin deciding their fate) so the team had to pull for the Bronze medal which they won well. In the 720 kilos Holland destroyed Leek and the British Army teams, and beat Sheen 2 ends to 1. The only team Holland lost to was Bosley, who were the eventual Gold medallists, with Holland taking a superb Silver medal! Bosley were on super form becoming the first team in history to take 4 Gold medals, and in those Gold medal runs they only lost one end - and that was to HOLLAND! Congratulations to Bosley and also to Holland! |

The Ridware Boys winning their Semi Final |
Its Silver for Ridware! The National Young Farmers competition at the Royal Show was just terrific. Ten teams were representing their areas, the best ten young farmers teams in Britain. Ridware, pulling as Staffordshire, pulled off a clean sweep to get to the finals by winning both the County Show and the Three Counties Show at Malvern, without losing an inch of rope. At the finals they were pitched against Cambridge, Devon, Ashover from Derbyshire and Cornwall. Ridware pulled ..... |
.. out of their skin to go through to the Semi Finals with Ashover, where they met Yorkshire A. Beating Yorkshire 2-0 Ridware had made it through to the National Final. After losing to Ashover in the group stage Ridware knew they had to take the pull to the opposition, and they did just that, winning the first end in 5 mintes. Ashover levelled the score in the second end and then won the toss for the deciding end. Ridware took them to well over half way but Ashover, the defending champions just held on and managed to work the rope back to win the pull. As Ridware left the arena with their Silver Medals, the dissappointment of not taking Gold was soon overshadowed by a feeling of pride! The first Staffordshire team to ever get to the final, and last year the team didnt win an end at the County Show. In 2008, the team made it to the finals without losing an end, and then only lost to one team: Ashover, the eventual Winners, and had the first end in the Final. That is some acheivement boys and we are all thoroughly proud of you! ...............If you want to see some pictures from the celebrations back at the club, see latest news page! |

Sunday 13th July : Holland put out two squads, one for Spilsby Show, Lincs. the Federation National League, and another for the England training day at Sandhurst. The team did well at Spilsby with only a small team, taking the win in the 600 4+4, and backing that up with three runners up trophies. The 720 squad pulled well in Berkshire, beating Felton Eccles, Sandhurst, Oxney Vines Cross and others to take runners up in the Catchweight and the 680. |
